Dear Readers!
Once again, I would like to extend my warmest wishes for a Happy and Peaceful year ahead.
In this Newsletter, I am sharing with you my creative ideas and Substack publishing plans for 2024.
Essay on ‘Cancel Culture’
Is ‘cancel culture’ in art durable? History provides a convincing answer: it is a passing phenomenon. You can read about this in my essay on the cancellation of Wagner's music in the Russian Empire during the First World War.
The analysis of nearly two thousand theatrical newspapers from 1914 to 1918 is now complete, and I intend to present the findings for your evaluation in January and February.
RW - painting and prose
Starting in March, every Wednesday for 21 weeks, I will publish on Substack the paintings by the artist Victor Vasilyev dedicated to the life and works of Richard Wagner. They will be accompanied by my 'literary miniatures': ‘What would Wagner say if he saw this painting?’
The sequel to ‘The Censors’ and spying on Wagner by secret police
In case you are interested, I will be working on the two new stories before the end of the year:
My censors, the characters of the novel ‘The Grail and the Censor’, continue to live their own lives. They demand that I tell the readers about their difficult fate after the coup d'état in Russia in 1917. I have choice but to write a sequel...
Last year, ‘The Aurora’ magazine published the first chapters of a story I had begun to write about the gendarmes' spying on Richard Wagner during his tour of St. Petersburg in 1863, and the complex relationship between talent and power. This story will continue, once I have paid due respect to my censors.
Stay with me on Substack! There is a lot of exciting things in store for you in 2024.
Yours sincerely,
Viacheslav
